Suzy Prior is a professional photographer and video production tutor who specializes in documentary photography, with a particular interest in documenting England and its idiosyncrasies
Suzy’s exploration of Englishness focuses on many of the institutions of childhood, which have their own hallmarks and visual signifiers: the funfair, a weekend by the sea, Morris dancing and the small and insignificant details of village life. The images are both an affectionate and an ironic take on English life and culture.
Previously in her professional capacity as a Museum studio photographer, Suzy was involved with archiving and recording culturally significant artifacts for posterity. Her work translates some of this curatorial aesthetic to sideshow prizes and ketchup bottles, which are themselves iconic, visually and socially, exploring the beauty beyond the ordinary and everyday.
Suzy's work has recently appeared in the British Journal of Photography and Modern Art Oxford as outstanding in the Oxford Open show. She has also exhibited her work widely, including a solo show at the Pitt Rivers Museum, University of Oxford.
